Next Sunday, we enter into the penitential season of Advent. Although Advent does not carry the same disciplinary weight as Lent, I do encourage everyone to take on some practices consistent with “preparing for the Lord”. We are living in the midst of an unprecedented chastisement that will only be brought to a close by a sincere reparation on the part of all the faithful. To that end, I suggest considering taking on additional spiritual practices during the four weeks of Advent, especially the overcoming of sin, prayer, and the spirit of recollection. I note also several opportunities for generosity to the poor that are available in the coming weeks: today, the diaper drive for the Gabriel Project; next week, the Advent Giving Tree; and the following week, the Brown Bag Lunch Project.
