Last Saturday, I attended the Chesterton Academy Gala for their Sacramento chapter. It was very impressive! The Chesterton Academies started less than two decades ago and already have seventy-one schools located throughout the country. They provide a classical, Catholic education to high school students.
The event renewed for me a truth that is ever-present in my interactions with parishioner families; namely, how many sacrifices parents are making for the education of their children. It used to be that Catholics of any station were guaranteed an excellent, Catholic education in our country. Sadly, this is no longer the case. On account of that, parents have banded together in countless efforts to provide home schooling, academies and co-ops, at enormous personal cost, both in terms of time and of money, for the formation of their children.
I would like to point out several of those efforts that our parishioners are involved in. In addition to home schooling in general, there are:
- Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom Co-op
- Sancta Maria Classical Academy
- Chesterton Academy in Dixon
- Chesterton Academy in Sacramento
Parents, please know that your efforts are recognized and admired by the priests and (hopefully!) by your children. Be assured of our prayers for your families.
